New fronts. Equity markets sold off yesterday on news that Trump was proposing new tariffs on the EU and a lowered global economic growth outlook by the IMF. With the possibility of a new front in the trade war looming stocks gave up their winning streak in a day of selling.

Watchful waiting. Former Fed Chief Janet Yellen’s prescription for policy is in line with the current Fed and traders are obedient, watching and waiting for first quarter earnings. Stocks closed up yesterday on a benign inflation figure and market friendly FOMC minutes.

Stand still. Yesterday, stocks finished mostly unchanged as traders awaited the start of earnings season. Equities could not muster enough energy to make any large moves in absence of any new stimulants.

Spring has sprung! On Friday, stocks leapt on obscure news from China, upbeat bank earnings, and interesting corporate announcements. After a week of low volatility in which traders were searching for something to get off the couch over, Friday’s interesting mix of news gave them something to trade...

The waiting game. Investors sat on their hands in yesterday’s session with no economic or fundamental news to trade on. The waiting game began yesterday as investors await the start of earnings season later this week.

Relief. Stocks rallied on Friday in response to a strong monthly jobs number putting recession fears at ease… for now. Investors were more relieved than pleased to hear that the monthly job additions seemed to have bounced back after last month’s weak showing.
