Almost. Stocks had a mixed close in last Friday’s session amidst alarmingly fast-rising infection rates. Confidence in a V-shaped recovery appears to be waning and tech investors continue to take profits.

Great expectations. Stocks slipped yesterday on disappointing economic data, giving the bulls a chance to rest their hooves. Tech remained weak in yesterday’s session, still near record valuations.

Shot in the arm. Stocks rose yesterday in response to good results from Moderna’s vaccine trials released after the close on Tuesday. Bank earnings were mixed but a solid beat from Goldman Sachs helped bolster the Dow’s gains.

Look in the mirror. Stocks had a sluggish start yesterday but they quickly recovered and powered higher for solid gains. Tech stocks remained under pressure after Monday’s selloff but they managed to close in the green in a late day run-up.

Pain in the neck. Stocks gave traders whiplash yesterday, opening strong on the vaccine front and ultimately selling off on California’s reopening reversal. Tech stocks were especially vulnerable to the selling, ending an epic winning streak.

We shall overcome. Markets rallied on Friday after Gilead announced that its antiviral drug Remdesivir improved COVID survival rates by 62%. Traders took the opportunity to pile into the hardest hit post-pandemic stocks.
